Brice Run

Hiked Alberton Road along the Patapsco River to Brice Run and sat by the little falls there.

On the return walk I saw these geese on the river. I think they are staying the winter.

Brice Run

On July 4th I hiked the Alberton Road section of the Patapsco, then up past the Daniels dam on the Baltimore County side of the river. About a mile above the dam Brice Run feeds into the Patapsco as it passes under the railroad tracks. I hiked along Brice Run to Wrights Mill Road and back again. There is a small falls on the stream. On my way to Brice Run I saw people tubing below the dam, some funky fungi on a fallen rotting tree branch, and I observed what appeared to be a mother and daughter pair paddleboarding above the dam. About a five mile hike, round trip.

Little Patuxent River - Lake Elkhorn to Savage Mill

Hiked the Little Patuxent river from Lake Elkhorn to Savage Mill this afternoon with Chris. The blue heron was in Lake Elkhorn near the underpass to the trail head.

This doe was with two others. We watched them for ten minutes without spooking them as they browsed in the the trailside thickets. A few more photos can be seen here.

I had never heard of these rapids/falls just upstream from Savage Mill. They are pretty impressive.

At trail's end we climbed up the hill from the river beside this support building that once powered the looms of Savage Mill.
